Post Volume 8 thoughts and other stuff.

Meme’s First

 Chapter 157
Chapter 158

Sorry, it’s a sickness. Had to be done.

So, if you haven’t read 157 and 158 yet, why are you here? Go back and read them.

Okay, so Volume 8 is over and it was something of a clusterfuck. Unpopular change in view, going on longer than expected, plus multiple delays, all adds up to something of a soured experience for me and all of you.

I’m sorry. I’ll do better in the future.

When I set out to write this volume, I had a bullet point list of events which needed to happen. Topping that list was: (Spoiler Alert) Qing-Qing Dies. This wasn’t the first major character I intended to kill, but in the end, I wrote her death. Whether it was any good or not, or if it had any impact at all, well… that remains to be seen.

I can’t speak for my readers, but as the writer, it was HARD writing and reading her death. The entire time I was writing this volume, I kept hesitating, trying to come up with an escape, wrapping everything up nicely where she could live happily ever after with Baledagh.

Obviously, that didn’t work out.

I get attached to my characters and hate to see them go. I know Baledagh and Qing-Qing aren’t the most popular characters, but I love them. An arrogant, brash, blood thirsty child, out in the world on his own for the first time meets an indecisive dreamer from a small village and falls in love. There’s something oddly adorable about that to me.

Maybe in a few weeks, I’ll come back and read this volume and think ‘What the Fuck?’, but from day 1, Baledagh was the original owner and I felt he deserved an arc.

Anyways, moving on, as some readers have noticed, Fiction Grill is sort of dead. The owner has disappeared and the techs aren’t responding to my queries. Originally, I made the move here mostly because RR is ugly as sin and I hate their comments section. It hasn’t gotten any better, but FG is now circling the drain. Email notifications aren’t working, I’m not getting notified of comments, updates are needed, etc. etc.

So, I will now go on break until January sometime, and when I return, it will be ONLY at Royal Road. Update your bookmarks and keep an eye over there, because I have something in the works for around Christmas time, a present for my readers.

Thank you for reading thus far, and I hope you follow me (back) to Royal Road.

Edit: Well this is foreboding… RR is down for me hahaha, can’t update the latest chapters there. *facepalm

Edit2: Gravity Tales requires me to censor all swearing, so that’s a deal breaker for me. Thanks for the suggestion though, it’s a great site otherwise.

Hi!

I, for one, loved this volume.

I always thought that Warrior was the original owner, it just made sense.

Since you will stop posting here, i can finally stop visiting this website.

I was shocked to see chapter 158. Thanks for that treat!

I wish you a happy and enjoyable holiday!

Edit: and i just saw that your chapter is online on RR. congratz!

“Thank you for reading thus far, and I hope you follow me (back) to Royal Road.”

I’d follow you into a shady alley if it meant getting my regular dose of Savage Divinity so, off to RR we go!

As for B, sucks for the kid but first love can be quite a bitch, especially if it doesn’t work out. Hope he finds hope and new love in the end. The living have a duty to the dead, to live life to the fullest, and Rayne and Baledagh’s lives have just begun.

While I certainly didn´t enjoy the amount of Gen Pov I still have to say that I still enjoyed this volume. Baledagh is a very interesting character and I liked the change of pace. Even if the ending was quite predictable. In regards to where to upload your story. Maybe you could open your own wordpress site or join a bigger site than fiction grill, gravity for example. Have a nice break and see you next year.

This arc had it’s positives and negatives and honestly unless you wanted your story to turn into a clown fiesta Qing Qing had to go. Honestly she was my favorite part of this arc and it was sad to see her die. I for one will follow you over into the comments section of RR, I agree though that it’s ugly and the community isn’t the greatest.

Congratulation on the job so far ! Glad i nailed almost every point 😀 Baledagh/Rayne situation was pretty damn clear since the first times they interacted, and frankly it’s the most interesting situation regarding future possibilities, very much in line with the general style of the story (sorry guys, no op fusion of the 2 personalities/powers…… not yet anyway 😀 ) In my mind Qing-Qing was marked for death the instant gen went defiled ahoy, but hell did expect HIM to become a demon, that was a damn nice twist ! Now give me a shout if i guessed this… Read more »

FUCK that was nice !

I feel like we would have felt more teeribly Qing-Qin’s death if Baledagh hadn’t given up afterwards.
Plus we don’t get much closure (in the fight) since Fucking Gen is still alive.

Still I really liked this volume, I wish Rayne and Baladagh would just merge but that’s clearly not happening.

I also want to see the changes in Rain, his Awakening and if his Insights will combe back a bit more often.

Anyway, have a nice break 🙂

I feel sad for Rain. It’s like u have a second chance and now you find out it comes at someone else’s expense. It’s better for having him there though. Baledagh is obviously Defiled and Rain stops that from happening. Wondering where you are going with this though.

Thanks for the chapters! I agree though, when I first started reading, I wasn’t a fan, but I felt like Baledagh did deserve his own story so I read on anyways. Also sorta saw Qing-Qing’s death coming. Mainly because of how hard it would have been to share a body, 3 wives and 4 dangerous pets. Hope you have a good break!
On a side note, it to be a boring month or two with you and mooderino taking breaks. 🙁

>This wasn’t the first major character I intended to kill oh no you didn’t Baledagh’s POV is pretty fun honestly, it’s just the Qing-qing part that is less …savoury for me. Seeing through her POV made her less of a stable character to understand, but otherwise the arc is pretty enjoyable, infuriating though it might be, and Qing-qing’s death is expected yet unexpected at the same time. Her character brings out quite a lot of problem in the long term that her death is basically guaranteed, but it’s just too abrupt to let it sink in. Above all else though,… Read more »

You should try contacting gravitytales they have been taking original novels and are definitely better than RR

I’m really glad you released the chapters together. I had originally just seen 157, and the “cliffhanger” mirrored the ones where Rain “died” too closely; I felt that it took away from the impact of the scene. Seeing that it wasn’t actually a cliffhanger improves things immensely. On a separate note, are you familiar with Gravity Tales (gravitytales.com)? They are mostly a translation site for cultivation novels, but they ALSO host a couple of original stories (including a pair that I have quite high opinions of), and your novel is a good fit for them from what I’ve seen. I… Read more »

I think this volume will be great when you can read through the whole thing at once. I think it suffered a bit due to the episodic format but will hold up well in review. The Rain reveal was a bit jarring, so I would definitely recommend adding a couple of Rain POV micro-scenes scattered through this volume if you go back to edit it. I also think Baledagh’s character isn’t bad, but he has a hard time standing on his own. I do like how the relationship between Rain and Baledagh is changing though. It would be neat move… Read more »

I personally enjoyed this arc – I do think its a shame that Qing-Qing died.

Enjoy your break!!

P.S. I would suggest either using your own blog page (you can make add revenue that way) or trying out https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/.

lmao, im in denial. While I wasn’t attached to Qing as much as the other girls, purely based on the number of chapters she has had, I really did loved her character development. I got this thing that after seeing the number of sticky situations main characters live through, like Akani or her daughter. I end up thinking no one is going to die. I start thinking up comedic ideas about how Rain would always have to juggle switching persona when talking to Qing, or of him having to tell her the truth about his multi-personality, her being the first… Read more »

Love your story man, her death felt a bit rushed and would have actually preferred to see her death from Baledagh point of you. a bit more rattling. keep up the good work man

In the end it worked out well. I’m sad for Qing-Qing but I feel you did a good job there in the end. I admire your guts for killing her off (coz it was hard for you as an author).

And Santa for Christmas I want Yan side-story pretty please 🙂

Gen became a half demon with a Demon wife and is still not dead. I am less than pleased with that turn of events as I stopped enjoying Gen’s POVs about the time he killed the bear and turned full defiled. A part of me feels like this entire arc has been largely a waste of time since the MC has apparently gained nothing but fatigue and old wounds from it. I’m okay with slow progress in a story but this more closely resembles negative progress which no one likes in fiction or reality. Still, I am with you for… Read more »

I enjoyed this arc a lot. Thanks for posting for free! Glad Gen escaped. I hope Gen and Bei become such a threat that we see Rayne/Bal team up with Zian! (It’d be like Goku and Vegeta!)

Heya ruff. Love the story even though that last arc kinda dragged on a bit. Have you tried spacebattles/sufficient velocity/questionable questing. These forums have a fairly large userbase and quite interactive

Hi ruff, well done! If people felt that Quing-Quing was destined to die I never saw it coming. Maybe I took the novel more for rom-com than mature. Still even if it’s not my preferred volume, I think it’s a great one and a necessary one. Rain was becoming too confident. I am sure he didn’t have any close call while training his meat shields (former cripples). That is close to 6-7 months. Better keep him cool-headed. Also great twist with Baledagh, I always thought that he was half defiled so Baledagh was the defiled part meant to take over… Read more »

I just realized that I missed the elephant in the room; why didn’t Bai butcher Rain? Was it to let Gen butcher him instead? Why did Gen want to punish Qing Qing when she was already dead?

Also… How is Ravil going to feel knowing that because he was late, his boss who found a 4th wife, watched her die instead?

Just wanted to say, you’ve done an amazing job with this arc. It was hard to read. It was disturbing, and horrifying in its way, but compelling, and sweet, and sad. A story does its job best when it inspires that much emotion, and there are plenty of authors out there who can’t manage it. I’ll look forward to having Rain back at the wheel, but the story is better for giving Baledagh his time, and his name. As to posting sites, I know a couple, but as my knowledge there is mostly the product of a misspent youth, they’re… Read more »

Hey ruffwriter, I’d like to say that even though this arc was not my favorite, it was still still pretty good and I hope you aren’t discouraged from continuing to write. Plot-wise, this arc seemed very necessary to develop Baledagh and explain his and Rain’s relationship. If you’re open to suggestion, I would like to point out some things that didn’t work for me in this volume. Of course, this is only my personal view so if you feel some points are absurd, feel free to ignore them, but I will try to explain as best I can. I am… Read more »

Hi ruff, yea its true that the cover is an important part of the attractiveness of the book in watt pad. But it begins to also be on RR as you now see the cover alongside the title on ‘latest updates’, where a big part of the community select new novels to read. I encourage you to find a good cover even if the current one grew on me ( I originally went here for HTADODB and it’s nice cover and synopsis from RR, but it’s really too slow common 30+ chapter to kill a rabbit? I enjoy slow development… Read more »
